Remo Stars surprised many football fans with their performances in the recently completed 2021/2022 season.

Last season, Ikenne’s club were undefeated in their first 11 matches. Apart from that, in their first season in the NPFL, they ended up with a continental ticket.

But everyone could see that it was because of the experienced coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, who was hired before the season started.

Fans have lauded Ogunbote with praise such as “Oracle, Ancelotti, etc.” for his work and the results he helped the club achieve.

Ogunbote, nicknamed the Oracle for his exploits with the Sunshine Stars, joined the Sky Blue Stars last year following their promotion to the NPFL after two seasons in the second tier.

Remo Stars didn’t expect Ogunbote to land a continental ticket when they offered him a one-year deal, but he did it in spectacular fashion.

While many expected Remo Stars to replicate the continental exploits of the Sunshine Stars under Ogunbote, the club surprisingly announced Ogunbote’s departure after completing his one-year contract.

Many thought the former Sunshine Stars coach had a long-term project only for him to announce his departure this month.

Premium Times contacted Ogunbote to find out what might have happened regarding his departure.

PT: Why did you leave after achieving so much success with Remo Stars?

Ogunbote: To the glory of God, I had a soccer season with Remo and we part amicably as a family and diligent personalities who respect a contractual agreement.

It had been a collective responsibility and effort and after that, we decided to separate without fighting; without anything.

As I said, it will be honorable enough for both sides to respect the agreement that we had at the initial stage. Therefore, we parted ways.

PT: Was it your plan the whole time to leave after your contract?

Ogunbote: As I said before, my duty to Remo is (was) to stabilize the team so that it can maintain its status as prime minister, to the glory of God, we didn’t just do that, we got over it and moved on. get a continental slot.

PT: What do you know about the new coach?

Ogunbote: The man (Daniel Ogunmodede) who took over, I want to tell you that he understands Remo Stars inside out and I want to believe that with the support of management he will make Remo Stars successful.

PT: Where are you moving to?

Ogunbote: The truth of the matter is that since Ogunbote is a free agent, you have to expect clubs to show offers and the Shooting Stars could be one of them.

Like you said, this is all speculation. But whether it’s speculation or not, before long, we’ll all see where Ogunbote is headed.”

PT: What are you looking for in your new job?

Ogunbote: I would like to be part of any team where we can agree on ambition and development, and Shooting Stars is not my only option.
