Alhaji Popoola Ogundoyin, executive member of the Independent Petroleum Traders Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), says that unless Nigeria produces petroleum products through its refineries, problems in the oil sector will persist.

Ogundoyin stated this during an interview on Saturday in Ile-Ife.

He expressed his disgust at the failure of public and private sector stakeholders to establish standard refineries across the country that would produce enough petroleum products for the citizenry.

According to him, Nigeria is the only country in the world that has crude oil, but we are still importing petroleum products.

“Of crude we have almost 18 by-products such as gasoline, diesel and kerosene among others.

“If we are producing them ourselves, surely the unemployment problem will be solved, because many will be employed and this will also improve the economy,” he added.

Ogundoyin urged the federal and state governments to rise to the task ahead for the well-being of Nigerians.

“Both the federal and state governments should build new and renovate all damaged refineries for the betterment of the nation,” he charged.

He called on Nigerian leaders, especially politicians, to do everything possible to fulfill all the promises made during their campaigns.

According to him, without the masses voting for them, none of them can reach the position they are today (NAN).
