At least 2,497 Nigerians have donated more than 17 million naira to Palestinians caught in the war between Israel and Hamas in Loop.
The donations followed an appeal made on Thursday by Kaduna-based cleric Ahmad Gumi asking Nigerians to help the Palestinians.
Mr Gumi himself made a donation of N50,000 while launching the fundraising appeal.
The Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna, Muhammed Suleiman, said a total of N17,959,806 was raised following the appeal for humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine.
“After the appeal fund, through the Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Mosque Foundation and Dr. Ahmad Gumi Students Forum Account, the aforementioned amount was raised in seven days.
“At least 2,497 Nigerians donated to the appeal fund account; the lowest donor sent 50 naira and a maximum donation of 100,000 naira.

“The goal is to help the victims of the war, which includes the children and the weak in Gaza, this is what we can offer them after the prayer,” Suleiman said.
Suleiman said the amount will be donated through the Red Crescent to the victims of the war in Gaza.
He said the appeal fund is ongoing and concerned Nigerians who wish to donate can do so through the foundation with First Bank account number 2033813455.
Furthermore, as part of activities to show solidarity with the Palestinians, Gumi, along with some Christian clerics in the state, received the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdallah Abu-Shuwesh, at the Sultan Bello Hall.
The event was also attended by former Kaduna legislator, Shehu Sani, along with others.
