Kaduna Police Catch Six for Stolen Gasoline Tanker Truck

Officers from the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested six people for the alleged theft of 40,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as gasoline, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

The Command’s spokesman, Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mohammed Jalige, reported yesterday in a statement.

He said, “Kaduna Police Command received a complaint through Area Commander Jere Area Office about the fact that the complainant, a Bakura Bukar from Mararaban Jos, Kaduna, on April 16, entrusted his truck marked BAM 02 XA loaded with 40,000 liters of PMS. valued at N6.2 million to driver him for subsequent delivery from Lagos to Kaduna.

“On April 18 at around 11pm at the Issah U-turn along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, the driver had a flat tire and had to drive off the road to replace the flat tire.

“Three unknown persons arrived in a sedan car and attacked him and his driver.

“They were taken away and tied to a nearby bush. The victims then struggled to free themselves and returned to the road to discover that the truck full of PMS had been taken to an unknown destination, hence the report.”

Jalige explained that on the strength of the report, the Police Commissioner ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter and detectives sprang into action in order to apprehend the culprits.

The team, he said, acted on intelligence and managed to arrest three suspects, namely; Habibu Mohammed, Halilu Mohammed and Isa Mohammed in connection with the offences.

According to him, subsequent investigations revealed that two gas stations were used to dispose of the stolen goods.
“The operators of said service stations who are strong collaborators of the crime were also apprehended, namely; Isa Yusuf, Sutajo Lawal, and Stephen Habila.

“The operatives further advanced the investigation process and also recovered the criminals’ operative vehicle, one (1) Jackknife and the stolen fuel truck, as well as the PMS product.

“Meanwhile, the suspects have since confessed to being a syndicate known for such acts and are currently assisting in the investigation process.

“Everyone will be charged in court at the end of it. However, a deliberate effort by the Command is geared towards arresting all remaining members of the union, as well as their collaborators, if any, to prevent future occurrences,” he added.

MEANWHILE, Police Commissioner Yekini Ayoku has asked the Tanker Drivers Association (PTD) to take advantage of the Command’s designated emergency contacts to report any tanker breakdowns along off the road so that a nearby police formation is contacted for security coverage. during the repair period.
