abuse of funds

An activist from a civil society organization in the state said that the use of taxpayer money to welcome the president is an abuse of public funds.

Abdurahman Abdullahi, president of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in the state, said the money should instead be used to provide basic services to the people.

“This is one of the ways LGA funds are siphoned off. It is a case of high level corruption and waste. It is unfortunate that a state like Katsina, where children are educated on the bare floor, access to healthcare is poor due to a shortage of human resources and medical equipment, clean water inaccessible to many communities, and many more social deprivations. , to withdraw a stupendous amount in the name of entertainment for the presidential visit.

“This money, if used correctly, is enough to pay a year’s allowances for more than 4,000 casual workers in the state, provide clean water to 500 communities, or make 50,000 desks so that our students learn in a more conducive environment.

“After all, this has clearly shown us that everything the government has been saying about the inability of LGAs to pay their workers’ salaries due to insufficient funds is not true,” Abdullahi said.
