… Don’t let the confrontation with the Kaduna government make you irrational

By Adesina Wahab

The National Association of Parents and Teachers of Nigeria, NAPTAN, has asked the bandits who kidnapped some students from Greenfield University in Kaduna state to allow more time for negotiation that will lead to the peaceful resolution of the crisis in question.

NAPTAN National Chairman Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, who spoke in an interview with Tuesday, also pleaded with the bandits not to allow the confrontation between them and the Kaduna state government to push them into irrational actions.

Danjuma also asked the bandits to fear God and not kill the innocent students.

He spoke in reaction to the bandits’ threat that unless a N100 million ransom is paid by Tuesday, the 17 remaining students in his custody would be killed.

“For me, I think the government should rethink its decision not to dialogue or negotiate with the bandits. My position is based on the fact that entering into a dialogue with them does not necessarily mean that the government has to pay them money. It could be a way to get to know your grouse and why they have such a grouse with whoever or whoever has it.

“Assuming the bandits even want to be paid some money, if the government is not interested in paying any money, let the government allow the parents to raise the money and pay. I heard that the parents had raised and paid the bandits over N50 million, although I was not aware of that.

“The government cannot stand by and do nothing. Are the children of government officials traumatized among innocent students? The answer is probably no. I beg the bandits on behalf of all Nigerian parents to spare the lives of these children. They should not allow their confrontation with the government to push them to do evil. None of the governor’s children are among the victims.

“The bandits should also fear God and forgive these children. The shedding of innocent blood should stop. We cannot continue in this way. We are not only killing education in the country, we are damaging and endangering the future of Nigeria, ”he said.

Let us remember that on April 20 of this year some students and a staff member of Greenfield University, in Kaduna state, were kidnapped and a few days later, five of them were murdered.

On Monday, the group threatened to kill the remaining 17 unless they are paid a N100 million ransom and provided with 10 new motorcycles by today, Tuesday.
