Kano’s Internal Revenue Service, KIRS, has temporarily relieved 308 temporary workers from their jobs due to a drop in internally generated income in the state caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

KIRS President Bala Inuwa made this known by addressing journalists in Kano on Wednesday.

It also revealed that 60 consulting companies whose contracts have expired since 2018 and have been operating illegally have been terminated. However, those of them interested in continuing can reapply.

“We have temporarily relieved 308 temporary workers from their jobs pending the improvement of internally generated income in the state.

“KIRS faces an unprecedented shortage of funds with a loss of around 70% of IGR monthly and is unable to maintain the services of temporary workers.

“When we came on board a few months ago, based on their terms of interest, the contract of 60 consulting companies has expired since 2018. For that reason, their services were terminated and they were asked to reapply if they were interested. “said the president.

The KIRS chief also explained the level of financial constraints the Service faces and said: “The IGR generated in the state during COVID-19 runs between N550m and N700 monthly due to COVID-19 compared to the former N2 billion. generated monthly. “
