Popular Nollywood actor Kunle Remi is in the news, and this time, it’s not for raising the dead, like he did in the movie ‘Anikulapo’.

The movie star, who had a fantastic 2022, is the subject of controversy for revealing gay activities in the Nigerian film industry.

Homosexual laws in Nigeria

Nigeria has strict laws against homosexuality.

In January 2014, Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathansigned a bill banning same-sex marriage.

The law criminalizes public displays of affection between same-sex couples and restricts the work of organizations that defend gay people and their rights.

It also imposes a 14-year prison sentence on anyone who enters into a same-sex marriage or civil union contract and a 10-year sentence on persons or groups, including religious leaders, who “witness, abet, and assist to solemnize a union or marriage between persons of the same sex”.

Like Mr. Ibu, Kunle Remi

A similar scenario played out in 2015 when veteran actor John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu, revealed that Nollywood is rife with same-sex relationship activity.

In an interview, Ibu pointed out that in Nollywood, men harass themselves, women harass themselves, and homosexuals flirt with him.

“I fight vehemently against homosexuals, both gays and lesbians,” stressed the comic character.

Nine years later, her younger colleague, Kunle, reaffirmed that sentiment by sharing her experience and encounter with a famous Nigerian artist who desperately wanted to be her lover.

Kunle was a guest on ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, where he spoke on the topic of ‘Artists and Entertainment Money’.

strange hearing

According to the ‘A Naija Christmas’ star, before joining the film industry, a friend at UI where he was studying introduced him to an animator who was supposed to guide him in the entertainment industry.

“I got there; this black starts yelling names, starts talking. That’s why I think they didn’t select me for the ‘Ultimate Search.’ It’s because I haven’t paid my dues.

“This guy sells me all the fruity shit big time. That I’m just there like… He paints this whole picture like he ain’t bend my ass you ain’t gonna make it bro. You know, when the person talks to you, he sounds like he says, ‘My nyash?!’

Speaking further, the actor recalled how the animator made a strange request.

He said: “This guy comes downstairs with a candle and a jar of oil because he says I’m a virgin.

“He said that I should put the candle in the oil as a lubricant and run it through my anus. That after now come, take it. And from there, now it’ll hook me up, and in my first month, I’ll be driving a Benz.”

He said that after giving it some critical thought, he opted not to review it.

other thoughts

Speaking further on the topic of discussion, Mr. Remi, who won the 2010 Gulder Ultimate Search, said that packaging is ruining the Nigerian film industry.

In his words, the packaging is also misleading people.

He said: “If I am a man, I am not fruity; I have nothing else to do. Maybe I’m just in this industry, and I’m just grinding, and I have the packaging of maybe a woman next door.
