The trade union organization in Kwara state has rejected the state government’s ongoing verification / audit exercise as a condition for the payment of minimum wage to workers as required.

Union leaders, therefore, put their members on hold for an indefinite strike that will begin on Monday.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) state chairman Aliyu Issa Ore, the Ag State Trade Union Congress (TUC) chairman Ezekiel Adegoke, and the state chairman of the Joint Bargaining Council ( JNC-TUS) Saliu Suleiman, made available to journalists in Ilorin.

Union leaders had given a 14-day ultimatum due to expire on Monday, October 10, 2020, to the state government to do what is necessary, but the government decided to carry out a verification and audit of workers before implementing the minimum wage.

The statement reads: “Consistent with the letter received from the office of the Chief of Service, State of Kwara, on the subject of Verification and Audit of Workers in Public Service and Local Governments, Work Organized under the auspices of the NLC, The TUC and the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC-TUS) vehemently rejected the verification exercise until the minimum wage issues are signed and implemented amicably for state workers without any discrimination.

“Furthermore, all workers / industrial unions in Kwara State are ordered to begin mobilizing and sensitizing their members towards the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum that will run on Monday at midnight (12.00) October 12, 2020 for full industrial action in the state “
