Liverpool could receive a ban that would deny them playing their remaining home games at Anfield.

The newly crowned Premier League champions saw their fans disobey social distancing rules after Chelsea defeated Man City at Stamford Bridge to present them with the title.

And this act of disobedience did not go over well with the Merseyside Police, City Hall, and Mayor Joe Anderson.

Anderson condemned Reds supporters for his overly enthusiastic display that thousands stormed the streets to celebrate the 30-year wait for the league title. Fireworks were displayed in the iconic Liver Building as fans gathered in thousands without observing the rules of social estrangement while celebrating.

A joint statement by Liverpool police and council said: “Several thousand people showed up at Pier Head on Friday and some chose to ignore the social distancing guide and risk public safety.

“Our city is still in a public health crisis and this behavior is totally unacceptable.

“The potential danger of the second COVID-19 spike still exists and we need to work together to make sure we don’t undo all that has been accomplished.”

“When it is safe to do so, we will all work together to organize a victory parade when everyone can celebrate.” Police had to disperse the crowd and made 15 arrests in the process during the chaotic scenes.

Liverpool have three games to play at Anfield, including Aston Villa, Burnley and Chelsea on the penultimate weekend of the season and will be awarded the trophy.
