THOUGHT LEADERS and elderly statesmen from four of the six geopolitical zones of the country, under the auspices of the Forum of Leaders of the Middle and South Belt, have declared a thirty-day period of mourning for the late Spokesperson of the Yoruba Sociopolitical group, Afenifere. , Yinka Odumakin.

A statement signed yesterday in Abuja by the former Federal Information Commissioner and Leader, Southern Nigeria and the Middle Belt Forum Chief Edwin Clark said that during the period of mourning, as leaders and members of the groups, they will refrain from participate in public activities. including their regular meetings.

The statement entitled “The Leaders of the South Nigeria and Middle Belt Forum Celebrate a 30-Day Mourning Period for Comrade Yinka Odumakin,” read: “Following the news of the very sad and shocking death of our National Secretary, the Comrade Yinka Odumakin, who is also the National Spokesperson for Afenifere, whose sad event occurred in Lagos in the early morning of Saturday April 3, 2021, the leadership of Southern Nigeria and the Middle Belt Forum, hereby suspends all public participation of the group for a period of 30 days.

“During the period, we will refrain from participating in public activities, including our regular meetings.

“We believe it is a modest and appropriate honor for one of the most outspoken, inspiring and patriotic Nigerians in history.

“We therefore like to publicly apologize to various groups that have invited our participation in meetings, conferences and similar activities.

“We would like to once again convey our condolences to his widow, Ms. Joe Odumakin, his elderly parents, the rest of the Odumakin family, and our compatriots in Afenifere.

“May Yinka’s brave soul rest in peace.”
