Mohbad’s body exhumed for autopsy: Police

The body of the 27-year-old Afrobeats star, who recently died under unclear circumstances, has been exhumed for autopsy, police said.

Ilerioluwa Aloba also known as mohbad He died on September 12 and was buried the next day, a move that upset many of his fans.

Lagos Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin gave the update on Thursday via his X handle.

“Exhumation completed. The autopsy will begin,” Hundeyin posted.

The police on Monday set up a 19-member committee to carry out a discreet investigation covering exhumation, autopsy, site visit, medical report, records of suspects and statements of witnesses.


The committee has two weeks to conclude its investigations.

SSS

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also invited the State Security Service (SSS) to join the police in unraveling the cause of the music star’s death.

The governor, through his handle X, said Tuesday that the measure was intended to “promote investigations” into the artist’s death.

“I have invited the Department of State Services (SSS) to join the investigation and widen the net with inter-agency collaboration and use of the best technology to uncover the truth,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“I have instructed that all those who played any role in any event leading to MohBad’s death be brought before the law after a thorough investigation.”

The hashtag #justiceformohbad has been trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, since news of his death came to light.

Hundreds of his fans have taken to the streets to call for the prosecution of those who might be involved in his untimely move.

Many people had especially pointed to his former boss, Naira Marley, and his partner Sam Larry, with whom he had a misunderstanding before leaving the Marlian Records label in 2022.

But Naira Marley, in a post on her Instagram account, called for a thorough investigation into her former signatory’s death and pledged to help “uncover any foul play or injustice.”

Sam Larry, a music promoter, came under heavy criticism online after a video of him and his men disrupting the filming of Mohbad’s video with Zlatan Ibile surfaced on social media.

It was alleged that the music promoter and his associates subjected Mohbad to constant intimidation and threats after he left Marlian Record.

But addressing the allegations in a video that trended on social media, Sam Larry denied having anything to do with Mohbad’s death and described him as his brother.

“Mohbad is my brother. When he signed with Marlian Records, he knew that he loved him very much. Even his wife and everyone else knows that I love Mohbad,” he said.

Mohbad was married and had a son.
