The Ebedaowei Kingdom of Kabowei, His Royal Highness Aserifa Hope Torru has called on the Bayelsa state government to activate the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to victims displaced by the floods in their domain.

He said that while the floods in the five Kabowei communities of Adagbabiri, Trofani, Asamabiri, Ekpereware and Elemebiri are an annual phenomenon, the prediction that this year will be much more is being felt across the state.

The royal father called for the urgent intervention of the federal and state governments, as well as interventionist agencies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission, among others.

“The flooding this year will be worse than the one in 2012. The water is rising every minute and I hope and pray that our people do everything possible to stay safe.

“There is an urgent need for some kind of relief material to be sent to all of our communities in Adagbabiri, Trofani, Asamabiri, Ekpereware and Elemebiri. Everyone is seriously affected, ”he said.

A youth leader in the Trofani community, Mr. Sunday Koinyan said there was an urgent need for the people of the community to feel the presence of the government as the flood had destroyed crops, farmland and many displaced people.

Describing the flooding of the Kabowei community and other communities as a great challenge, Mr. Koinyan enlisted the help of all Trofani Indians to be his brother caretakers in providing relief to those affected.

“Floods in our community are the biggest problem we face every year. We have lost a lot and we need the federal government, through its receptive agencies, to come to our aid.

State and local government also have a role to play in providing relief to our people. Trofani is not the only community affected by this disaster, four other communities of the Kabowei Clan are also affected. We need urgent attention, ”he said.
