Monsurat Ojuade: Lagos police conceal the identity of the murderer cop

The Lagos State Police Command is back in the news for the death of Monsurat Ojuade.

On Saturday, Monsurat was hit by a bullet when detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, went to arrest a robbery suspect in Ijesha.

The 18-year-old died in a short period of time and the entire neighborhood went into mourning.

A statement Sunday night from Adekunle Ajisebutu, a police public relations officer, confirmed that the operative who pulled the trigger has been identified and is in custody.

The spokesperson, however, did not mention the name or rank of the murderer policeman.

The PRO only said that Odumosu ordered the “officer” to be tried and charged in court after the dismissal.

“It is believed that this will serve as a deterrent to others who are not acting professionally in the performance of their duties,” added Ajisebutu.

Newslodge reports that Lagos residents have begun to complain about the alleged leniency granted to the wayward and happy officers.

Over the weekend, the Lagos Police Command announced that CSP Adegoke Akinlade, who lost his service pistol after having sex in the office, was reassigned.

Residents say Akinlade, the Denton division police officer, should have been suspended pending investigations.

Force headquarters are investigating the matter and are expected to ensure that Akinlade takes on the music.

Monsurat’s family, friends and social media users demand justice.

A video of the lifeless body of the adolescent circulates on the Internet.
