Chico Ejiro

By Benjamin Njoku

Veteran producer Zeb Ejiro described the sudden disappearance of his younger brother, Chico Ejiro, as “a severe blow” and added that “I have no” words. “

Chico Ejiro died in the early hours of Friday from a seizure.

He had just finished directing his new movie on Christmas Eve.

Zeb, still in shock, only confirmed that his younger brother had passed away and that his remains were deposited in the undisclosed morgue. “That’s how I see it. Chico no longer exists. He died this morning and his remains have been deposited in the morgue, “Zeb said quietly.

Also confirming Chico’s disappearance, Fidelis Duker said he flew to Lagos from Calabar to see his old friend. “As I speak to you now, I am at his house. Words fail me too, ”said the founder of the Abuja International Film Festival.

The deceased was said to have been in and out of the hospital for a while.

According to sources close to him, Chico had malaria and was treated immediately in the hospital about a month ago.

He was recovering from the ailment before meeting his untimely death.

However, since the sad news of Chico Ejiro’s death went viral on the internet, many of his colleagues in the film industry have expressed shock, disbelief and grief.

Born Chico Maziakpono in Isoko, Delta State, Ejiro is a film director, screenwriter and producer.

Before his death, he held the record for the Nollywood director with the largest number of films released.

According to him, he has produced and directed more than 85 films in his career spanning three decades.

Chico studied Agriculture in school, but then ventured into video production because Nigerians wouldn’t buy blank videotapes.

His work was typical of the second generation that began in the 1990s, when cheap video production equipment became available in the country.

He owned a production company called Grand Touch Pictures, which is based in Surulere, Lagos.

Nicknamed Mr. Prolific, Ejiro was married to Joy Ejiro and they have four children. He has two brothers: Zeb Ejiro, the best known of the new Nigerian filmmakers outside the country, and Peter Red Ejiro, also a film producer.

Chico appeared in the 2007 documentary Welcome to Nollywood, which followed him while making Family Affair 1 and Family Affair 2.
