NAFDAC Issues Warning Contaminated Whippy Mayonnaise in Circulation
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about the sale and consumption of a harmful brand of mayonnaise called Whippy.
A statement issued by the agency on Monday, July 24, says that after receiving a consumer complaint, it took random samples of the product for laboratory analysis, which showed unsatisfactory results.
The agency further claimed that the product, which was sourced locally from the manufacturer in Onitsha, Anambra State, had gone rancid and exhibited a different color than the original color of the mayonnaise, despite still being within the expiration date.
According to a NAFDAC statement, all zone directors and state coordinators have been ordered to carry out surveillance and remove implicated batches of the harmful product. The agency further urged distributors, retailers and consumers to use caution and vigilance to avoid consuming, selling or distributing the implicated lots of the unhealthy Whippy Real Mayonnaise.
Details of the implicated batch of the product are Pack sizes: 245 g and 460 g in plastic bottles; Manufacture date: June 2022; Best before December 2023; and Lot numbers: OA2GP220614A (245 g pack size), OA2GP220611A and OA2GP220617A (460 g pack size).
Anyone in possession of the aforementioned lots of Whippy Real Mayonnaise is encouraged to send stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
