New Nollywood Drama Series Flawsome Premieres in Lagos


On Friday, actors and other celebrities attended the exclusive screening of the first episode of a new show max original, ‘Flawsome’, in Alliance Francaise, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The screening was part of the activities of the 11th African International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

Hosted by media personality Victoria Eze, popularly known as Miz Vick, the event was attended by film director Tola Odunsi and cast members including Enado Odigie, Bisola Aiyeola, Sharon Ooja, Gabriel Afolayan , Iretiola Doyle, Baaj Adebule, Shine Rosman, and Shawn Fuqua.

The new 13-part drama series revolves around the lives of four women trying to navigate their personal and professional lives while struggling with the challenges of being a woman climbing the career ladder.

During the occasion, the film director, Odunsi, said: “Showmax is made for Africans, and everything we produce is designed to suit the audience. Most of the women can relate to the stories in the series.”

He also said, “I feel lost for words. I am happy that everyone is finally seeing this beautiful work that we have released. Women face various challenges, and we wanted to tell a deeper story that explores these issues.”READ

Busola Tejumola, MultiChoice Group’s Executive Director of West African Channels and Content, said: “Flawsome is a true representation of our culture, society, people and the intricate availability of the show. I am very sure our viewers will enjoy it.”

During a question-and-answer session, the series’ main characters Enado Odigie, Bisola Aiyeola, and Sharon Ooja remarked that being on set together was a wonderful experience. They reported that some scenes were so intense that they cried afterwards.

Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES, Enado Odigie shared that the show translates to her real life “the way the characters support themselves is the same way my sister friend supports me and I support them.”

She adds that the message she believes the film conveys is that women can support other women and have a healthy circle.

Speaking about his challenges, he said that the long hours of filming were one of his biggest challenges.

Bisola Aiyeola takes on the role of Ifeyinwa, a hard-working heiress. She has spent her entire life preparing to become CEO of her father’s company after her death, only to discover that she is not her father’s choice.

Enado Odigie stars as Dolapo, a career-driven woman who continues to beat the odds as she steadily climbs the corporate ladder with the biggest clients in her portfolio.

Ini Dima-Okojie stars as Ramat, who has a seemingly perfect marriage, an ideal middle-class life, and a great career, but her reality isn’t as rosy as it seems.

Sharon Ooja stars as Ivie, a wide-eyed young woman who gave up medicine and surgery for a career in fashion design in hopes of living the life of a big city girl.

Asked what he thought when he read the script, Gabriel Afolayan said, “The story was compelling and seeing that it was a Showmax Original piqued my interest because I wanted to see what the platform has to offer. I am very impressed with the final work”.

The first episode of Flawsome is currently airing on Showmax, with new episodes every Thursday.
