The president of Nigeria Tinubu Ball On Sunday he said he was ready to receive about 12,000 Nigerians stranded in Germany.
Responding to questions from a German journalist at the joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is on a two-day visit to Nigeria, he said Nigeria is ready to enter into a partnership to encourage legal migration to Germany.
Asked if he would make any demands on Germany in relation to the stranded Nigerians, Tinubu said: “I am not making any demands. “If they are Nigerian citizens, they are Nigerians and they are welcome home.”
The Nigerian leader said his administration would partner with Germany to ensure “regular migration and deepen the relationship in that area.”
He noted that the partnership with Germany would improve the migration situation so that other young and vibrant Nigerians could travel through the proper route.
The German Chancellor’s visit comes at a time when he is facing immense domestic pressure regarding migration to Germany.

The visit to Nigeria is Scholz’s third trip to Africa since taking office in 2021. Nigeria is Germany’s second largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa.
The trade volume between Germany and Nigeria is estimated at around €3 billion a year.
