The federal government has declared that teachers without the required qualifications and practicing license will be removed from the Nigerian Teaching Service.

The government said that from now on, First and Second Upper Class graduates will get teaching jobs.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, made it known on Saturday in Abuja.

He spoke while supervising the completion of the October 2020 Batch B Diet Teacher Professional Qualification Exams (PQE).

“By 2021, we will not involve teachers if they do not reach a specific threshold. We are now limiting the teaching entry point to only the best who are qualified. We will involve people with second and first class divisions, ”he said.

The official revealed that arrangements will be made for conversion programs for those graduates.

Echono said that since most studied in fields unrelated to teaching, they need to learn pedagogy and methodology through the National Teacher Institute (NTI) and the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

“They will undergo specific programs that will train them to teach. We must enforce Mr. President’s directive that only qualified teachers will be allowed in our classrooms, ”he added.

Echono assured that teachers will get better remuneration with peculiar bonuses.

The Permanent Secretary announced that the government was finalizing figures with Income Salaries and National Salaries.

He confirmed that this month the National Committee for the Implementation of the Teaching Revitalization / Resuscitation Plan will be inaugurated.
