A joint military-police operation eliminated 42 bandits in the Shiroro area of Niger state.

The troops were deployed after the intelligence on their movement towards the village of Alawa.

The agents ambushed criminals who fled the ongoing military operation in Zamfara.

They opened fire when they saw them at the Manganda crossing in Shiroro.

The shooting that followed claimed the life of one soldier, while some others suffered injuries.

“At least 42 bandits died. We lost a soldier, while the injured team members were taken to the Asmau hospital in Kagara.

“We recovered sophisticated weapons, motorcycles and herds of cattle from the bandits during the operation,” an official told PRNigeria.

Meanwhile, Shiroro leaders have raised the alarm of bandits fleeing Zamfara and entering Niger on motorcycles with masked faces.

They want the military operation taking place in Zamfara and the states to be well coordinated to ensure that criminals don’t sneak into nearby states.

Bandits have been seen in Galadiman Kogo, Zama, Magami, Maganda, Paleli, Iburo, Chukuba and Dnasapa, all in the local Shiroro government.

Coalition of Shiroro Associations (COSA) spokesperson Salis Sabo urged security agencies to intervene quickly.
