The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF) says the unity, peace and tranquility of the country transcends politics and political leanings.
The forum stated this in a statement by its Director-General, Cyril Maduabum, on Thursday in Abuja.
Maduabum added that the political crisis in Rivers State was not just a PDP problem, but a national issue.
He said the clarification was necessary following some speculative media reports on the forum’s praise of President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the crisis.
“To avoid doubt and clarify the sequence of events, it was the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, an APC Governor, who took the initiative to brief Mr. President on the situation in Rivers. .
“All the governors of 36 states supported the measure.
“Notably, PDP-GF Chairman Bala Mohammed lent his weight and support to the move and President Tinubu agreed to intervene as requested.
“It should be noted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is a member of the NGF and vice-president of the PDP-GF,” said Maduabum.
The CEO said that it was very disingenuous for some people to satirize the courtesy extended to Mr. President for his intervention.
Maduabum said the events that took place in Rivers had implications for national security and the potential to lead to a breakdown in law and order.
“In fact, the Rivers Police Command acknowledged this in its statement issued on Wednesday, November 1.
“Mr. President, as Commander in Chief of the Armed forcesand indeed the nation’s security director had to intervene to nip the crises in the bud.
“In fact, Nigerian history is replete with instances where an event in one state could snowball and affect the entire country.

“Rivers State is one of the major oil producing states in Nigeria. A breach of peace in Rivers State, considering its strategic value and importance, could undoubtedly affect other states of the federation,” Maduabum said.
He said it was indeed a sign of good leadership and high sense of duty that Mohammed called an emergency meeting of the PDP-GF immediately the Rivers matter arose.
He said that as a result of the meeting, the forum in its statement also welcomed the intervention of Mr. President to end the crises.
“There is no way that Mohammed, being a lover of peace in all parts of the country, will fold his arms and not act or appreciate the good efforts of the president to find a solution to the crisis,” Maduabum said.
