The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has discredited the report circulating that its server was violated, describing it as false, a hoax and malicious intent.
A statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Kayode Adegoke on Wednesday assured the public that there have been no such breaches or incidents.
Adegoke said the investigations into the alleged data dump were found to be non-existent in the National Identity Database.
He explained that the investigation carried out by the Commission into the data breach claim found that the database scheme presented by the adversary does not match the existing scheme of NIMC records, adding that the data published by criminals that claim to contain information from the citizens. it’s false.
The statement reads in part: “The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) would like to draw the attention of the general public that the alleged violation of the National Identity Database circulating on social networks is false, a hoax and naughty intentions.
“The NIMC would like to assure the public that there have been no such violations or incidents. It was found that the investigations into the alleged data dump did not exist in the National Identity Database.
“The Commission investigated the data breach claim and found that the database schema submitted by the adversary does not match the existing NIMC registry schema. The data published by criminals who claim to contain information about citizens are false. “
However, he reaffirmed that the Commission will continue to guarantee the security of the National Identity Database through various levels of security, insisting that no data is violated.
Therefore, he urged members of the general public to refrain from spreading false reports about the alleged data breach.
Recall that some social media reported Wednesday that the NIMC server went down as a result of some breaches, claiming that the agency may no longer be able to cope with the growing demand from Nigerians for enrollment across the country.
One of the reports claimed that the Commission’s Director General, Eng. Aliyu Aziz, blamed the development on the server’s capacity, saying it needed an upgrade.
