The POLICE in Rivers State has praised the bravery of lawyer and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) staff, Tamuno Igbikiberebima, in stripping a hijacker of his AK47.
The Police Commissioner, Rivers Command, CP Joseph Mukan, acknowledged on Thursday the heroic acts of Igbikiberebima, who also held the kidnapper who he stripped of his weapon until the police entered to arrest him.
Mukan was giving an overview of his administration, measuring challenges and achievements since taking over from Rivers CP in April of this year.
He said that NNPC personnel were “kidnapped on 12/17/2020 from his residence in Rumuigbo, but showed unusual bravery in putting up strong resistance, after which he only stripped one of the hijackers of his AK47 rifle. and arrested him and then the second kidnapper was arrested. “
Mukan said on taking over as 40th Rivers CP: “I faced challenging situations on the ground. I changed strategy and repositioned my men, charged with engaging in aggressive intelligence policing, with a view to gathering actionable information, which ultimately led to the eviction of criminals.
“An example of this is the arrest of the most feared gang leader, Honest diigbara (Aka Bobisky) who was declared wanted by the state government with a reward of thirty million naira. He was eventually arrested and the reward was redeemed.
“Between April and now I have been able to arrest and prosecute a good number of alleged kidnappers, armed robbers, rescue kidnap victims and recover a large quantity of weapons / ammunition, among other achievements.”
He noted that, “The Command is not alien to the fact that this is the period in which criminals take advantage to unleash chaos on unsuspecting people. In light of the above, we have implemented elaborate and workable security measures that will contain and reduce these nefarious activities.
“Let me warn all Rivers residents that we are now in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, therefore we must strictly adhere to protocols, particularly presidential directives on gathering of people, among others, as the defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted. .
“I echo the previous position on the use of fireworks, crackers and knockouts, which by their very nature are explosive, capable of causing harm, panic and tension in the State. Consequently, parents and guardians are advised to warn their children / wards to desist from bombing these substances, as offenders will be arrested and prosecuted. “
Among other key achievements, he presented the “arrest of four members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the recovery of materials and weapons that belong to them.”
IPOB suspects include Ugochukwu Abaziem, Chinedu Ureabu, Sunny Vincent, Onyekachi Sylvester.
They were arrested at Iriebe Housing Estate near Oyigbo LGA.
“They are suspected of being members of the outlawed IPOB responsible for attacks on police stations during the #EndSARS protest at the Oyigbo Area Command, where three police stations were set on fire and looted.
