He Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started collating the results of the 2023 Imo State gubernatorial election.

The Returning Officer for the elections, Abayomi Fasina, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye, Ekiti, who conducted the proceedings, began at 2.40am on Sunday at the Owerri data collection centre.

Results are being compiled just hours after the state’s gubernatorial election.

However, there has been a noisy session in the collation with several agents of political parties opposing the collation process.

“Why are you in a hurry to collate?” one of the party agents shouted repeatedly.

Agents from other political parties requested the suspension of the contest until the complaints of electoral malpractices raised by some candidates were resolved.

But Fasina, a professor, insisted that the collection must continue.

At approximately 5:08 am, some security agencies forcibly removed a party agent from the State Collaboration Center.
