The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says that Nollywood produced 416 movies in the first quarter of 2021 (first quarter of 2021) compared to 903 in the fourth quarter of 2020.
NBS said this in the “Nollywood Movie Production Data – Q2 2017 to Q1 2021” published on its website on Friday in Abuja.
Although the agency did not give the reason for the sharp drop, it said the decline indicated a decline of 53.93 percent quarter-on-quarter.
He also said that the number of films produced in the first quarter of 2020 stood at 407, indicating growth of 2.21 percent year-on-year.
The NBS added that Lagos State had the highest number of films produced by location in the first quarter of 2021 with 149 closely followed by Onitsha with 140 films.
However, Benin and Bauchi were the least recorded with two films each.
He added that the data was provided by the National Board of Film and Video Censors (NFVCB) and verified and validated by the NBS.
