The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Kogi State Command has opened up to the arrest of an alleged Corps officer in Kogi State.

Abdullahi Saidu, who was arrested for kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry in the Koton Karfe area of ​​the state, claimed he was an NSCDC officer.

But the NSCDC commander in Kogi, Suleiman Mafara, while briefing reporters on Monday, said that Saidu had already been declared a deserter after having left his duty post for the past two weeks.

“Abdullahi Saidu singled out for kidnapping activities in the state has been declared absent without official permission without permission by the command two weeks before his alleged arrest by the vigilante group in Kogi,” he said.

The Commander said that the rules of the Service indicate that personnel who illegally discharges themselves from duty without convincing reasons have already been discharged from the service.

He revealed that the command had tried to communicate with him since September 8, 2021 without success, and noted that since then the command had initiated an arrest process to face disciplinary action before the news of his arrest broke out by the state vigilante. .

“The NSCDC as a disciplined force will not tolerate any criminal act by any member of the corps, adding that the command will ensure that it is up against the law,” Mafara said.

The Commander, however, called on the public to always provide timely and useful information to the Security agencies to rid the state of undesirable elements, ensuring that the body is committed to the protection of lives and property in line with the laws in force of the service. .

He urged members of the press to confirm the stories of the appropriate security agencies before releasing information to the public.

Meanwhile, the NSCDC command arrested a power cable thief and an imposter from the Abuja electricity distribution company AEDC, which specializes in defrauding unsuspecting customers in the metropolis of Lokoja.

While parading the suspect, NSCDC Kogi state commander Suleiman Mafara said that 20-year-old Kabir Janaidu was captured while carrying some electrical equipment belonging to the federal university, Lokoja.

The Commander noted that upon receiving the call for help, his agents took action and promptly arrested the culprit who confessed to the crime.

Similarly, he said, a 26-year-old Abdul Isah was arrested after some clients complained that the suspect claiming to be an AEDC staff member is cheating them out of their hard-earned money under the pretext. to pay bills and make repairs for them. .

He added that upon receiving the numerous complaints from electricity users in Lokoja, the officers acted quickly and arrested him.
