Anambra’s Ngozi Okoro won the gold medal in the -50kg women’s karate event at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin on Thursday.
Okoro defeated Bayelsa’s Ibiene Finebone 3-0 in their three-minute fight.
At the end of the game, Okoro, who was inspired by his father, who is also his coach, said that he was happy to win the game.
“We promised our state governor, Willie Obiano, that we would return with gold medals and I am happy to have won one.
“I look forward to representing the country in competitions outside of Nigeria,” Okoro said. (NAN)
