On Tuesday, Daniel Nwafor’s All Progressive Congress, APC, Senator Rochas Okorocha-backed faction said they would disagree with the position of the APC Interim Committee / Extra Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, headed by the governor. Yobe State, Mallam Mai. Mala Buni, affirming Marcellinus Nlemigbo as the true leadership of APC in Imo State.

gathered in Owerri, that the recent battle for the soul of the APC in the state, was linked to the upcoming by-elections for the Senate Imo Norte on October 31st.

Like Okorocha, who represents Imo West, loyalists are pushing for Senator Ifeanyi Araraume to emerge as the party’s senatorial candidate, just as other Senator hopefuls have pledged their allegiance to Nlemigbo’s leadership.

However, Buni said that the APC as a party relied on the court’s ruling issued on July 16, 2020 that “following the argument of the hearing of both attorneys, the court on page 9 of its ruling ordered the following to be issues an order restraining the third defendant / counter-plaintiff (Mr. Daniel Nwafor)

“Either by himself, officials, agents, subordinates or any person who claims through him to enforce or give effect to the judgment of the court issued on 08/14/2018, FCT / HC / BW / CV / 103 / 2018.

“Pending the determination of the appeal presented by the 1st defendant / Request of (All Progressives Congress)”.

Therefore, Buni said that the party has concluded that, “until there is an order against the court, Nwafor will refrain from acting as party chairman in Imo.

But Buni’s position was not well received by the Okorocha faction led by Nwafor, who insisted that he should be recognized as APC president.

He responded Buni, saying: “The judgment of July 16, 2020 has been appealed by us in complaint No: CA / ABJ / CV / 595 2020.

“The stay of execution has also been filed in the FCT Abuja High Court with the claim No: FCT / HC / BW / M / 357/2020.

“Notice of appeal has been obtained and the court of appeal has issued a notice of appeal against the judgment of July 16, 2020.”

It should be remembered that the battle began in the run-up to the 2019 gubernatorial elections, when the Nwafor-led executive was dissolved by former APC national president Adams Oshiomole and Nlemigbo was appointed president of APC, an interim committee in the state of Imo.
