Governor of Ondo: PDP will take over the national campaign council led by Akeredoku-Makinde

By Adeola Badru

The National Campaign Council of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) for the October 2020 governor elections in Ondo state, has declared that the party will take over the state of government led by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu All Progressives Congress (APC ).

The council, under the leadership of the governor of Oyo state, engineer Seyi Makinde, affirmed this in the early hours of Saturday, after the heads of its subcommittees met in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state.

He argued that the PDP is willing to do whatever is legal to ensure victory in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Sunshine State.

According to the leaders of the PDP’s National Campaign Council, the party would put everything in place to take control of the Ondo state from the APC leadership.

A statement from Governor Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the Governor, addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, expressed his confidence that with the level of work the party is doing, victory is insured.

Speaking about the purpose of the meeting, Governor Makinde said: “The meeting is basically for the National Campaign Council for the 2020 Ondo Governor Election. These are responsible for the council subcommittees. We came here to strategize and also put our house in order. “

The council added that there is no doubt that the PDP will win the October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election in the state, stating that the state remains predominantly a PDP state and that the party has been working hard to win back the state.

The PDP’s national organizing secretary, Colonel Austin Akobundu, who was at the meeting, also expressed confidence that the party will take over the state from Ondo.

He said: “Wait for our campaign to stop. We will reveal everything we have to do for the people of Ondo. People here know that the PDP is the next government to take over the state and we are working very hard to make sure we get there. Our message will be clear and everyone will know it.

“You will agree with me that Ondo is predominantly PDP. So, I don’t know where the doubts about winning come from. We are established and we take nothing for granted. We are working very hard and we are determined to get there. We believe there is a lot of work to be done and we are prepared for it. “

Similarly, the candidate for governor of the PDP, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, said that the party is prepared for the election and that it has the massive support of the people of the Ondo State, declaring that the party will crush the APC.

He promised that the PDP government would usher in a new dawn in the state, stating that people will experience a new life in all sectors of society.

He said: “Our people are going to experience a new life. We are going to tackle the problems in the education sector. The high tuition fees imposed by the current government will be reduced when we enter government.

“The high cost of medical care will also be reduced. We will provide opportunities for our youth to obtain employment and address the agricultural sector.

“There are also many plans regarding the tourism potential of the state. We will exploit them and go in to see what we can do with solid minerals. We have bitumen. We will set a deadline for us to exploit it and the people of Ondo State will be happier about it. “

Responding to questions about whether the PPD is ready for elections, Jegede said the party is “ready and ready to go,” adding that “we are ready for elections. In 2016, they said the same thing that we were not established, but this time we will overwhelm them by the grace of God.

“Let me tell you this: what happened in 2016 will not be repeated. So we had an internal conflict but this time we are united and they have an internal conflict now. The people of Ondo state have now seen the negative effect of the APC administration. “

The PDP standard-bearer warned APC to avoid violence, noting that the masses are with the PDP and that they will remove APC from government in free and fair elections.

He said: “We will continue to work for free and fair elections. We pray for it and will resist any attempt by anyone to thwart the will of the people.

“If they are sure of their position, they shouldn’t have threatened violence. They should not have said that they depend on the federal power, which is what they have been saying all along. The masses are with us and must not impose violence on the state. Let’s have free and fair elections. Anytime, anytime, APC will go down. “
