Nigeria super falcons have taken another step in their quest to qualify for the women’s football competition at next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

The Super Falcons defeated Ethiopia 4-0 at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Tuesday to advance with an aggregate score of 5-1 after having drawn 1-1 with their opponents in the first leg played a few days ago in Addis Ababa.

difficult start

Tuesday’s match did not start so well for the Nigerians who, despite creating a handful of opportunities, failed to get the first goal they craved.

The first goal finally came just before the break and it was Uchenna Kanu who opened the scoring.

Second half

The Super Falcons hit the ground running in the second half and captain Rasheedat Ajibade doubled Nigeria’s lead just five minutes after the restart.

The wait was not too long for the third goal and it came from the boots of Asisat Oshoala in the 68th minute before Ajibade sealed Nigeria’s victory with another goal in the 72nd minute.

Although the Super Falcons have overcome Ethiopia, the road to Paris is still far away, as the Nigerian women’s team still has two more rounds to play before dreaming of securing a ticket from the two available places for Africa.
