Oyo State Police Commissioner Nwachukwu Enwonwu paraded suspected scammers on Thursday, who specialized in defrauding the public through a Ponzi scheme in Igboho, in the state’s Oorelope Local Government Area.

The alleged scammers, eight, who broke into Igboho city, allegedly induced members of the public to part with their huge amount of money, to the tune of two million seven hundred thousand nairas (N2,700,000.00), through a scheme labeled : “Social Economic Development Program”.

While the suspects marched past Eleyele Police Command Headquarters, Ibadan, the PC said that the eight suspects, namely Kola Oyejobi (32-year-old man), Olayinka Adisa (43-year-old man), Ridwan Adebayo (male 26 years old), Ademuyiwa Damola (25 years old man), Dada Adisa (25 year old man), Romoke Oladipupo (39 year old woman), Eniola Adegbola (29 year old woman) and Damilola Adejumo (30 year old woman), who operated under the name and style, “Noble City Global Concept”. He successfully defrauded community residents on the pretext that they would receive multiple folds within 48 hours of whatever amount they invested in return.

According to the state police chief, as soon as they received money from their victims, they disappeared into thin air and all efforts to reach them were generally unsuccessful.

The PC said: “A team of SARS agents took action and after a discreet investigation, members of the criminal syndicate were arrested in the Badagry area of Lagos state, where they had opened another office and scammed so many other members of the public and confessed to the crime, while a cash sum of N205,000.00 was only recovered from them.

The police commissioner also paraded 24-year-old Maryam Jamiu (woman) for allegedly abducting a six-month-old child, Shina Ayobami Abdulsalam.

Enwonwu explained to reporters that Maryam went to meet an Adebisi Roqeebat at her hairdresser and found her playing with her neighbor’s son.

“Maryam Jamiu, under the pretext of also playing with the baby, took the baby to an unknown destination without the consent of Adebisi Roqeebat or the child’s parents.”

“Upon receiving the complaint, the suspect was subsequently detained in Ilara Mokin in Ondo state on September 24, 2020, while the baby was rescued unharmed,” revealed the PC.
