Joe Moghalu, district president of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Anambra Statehas been shot and killed in the state.
Mr Moghalu was the YPP Chairman in Nanka Ward I in Orumba North Local Government Area of the State.
Newslodge has learned that the politician was shot dead on Saturday night by masked gunmen a few hours after organizing a gathering of YPP members in the area ahead of a rerun election for the Orumba North federal constituency. -Orumba South.
YPP’s Chinwe Nnabuife had been declared the winner of the February 25 contest. House of Representatives election for the constituency.
But the Court of Appeal in Abuja ordered a rerun at 13 polling stations in the district after his incumbent opponent, Okwudili Ezenwankwo of the PPDHe questioned his victory.
The replay, which is expected to take place in the coming days, will be between Mrs Nnabuife and Mr Ezenwankwo, according to the court ruling.
Police promise to find killers
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police have vowed to track down the killers of the YPP Chairman.

In a statement on Tuesday, Anambra State Police Spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said the state Commissioner of Police had ordered the state police to “hunt down” the killers and bring them to justice.
Ikenga, deputy superintendent of police, said the police commissioner condemned the murder.
The spokesman said police were already working “to unmask” the killers.
“The command wishes to assure all law-abiding citizens, especially in Nanka, not to be afraid and join hands with the police to bring the killers and their sponsors to justice,” he said.
