the police in waved Nkanu Patrick has been arrested for impersonating an Assistant Superintendent of Police.
Mr. Nkanu, 50, was arrested by a team of police officers from the Ore Division on Wednesday around 2 p.m.
The police team was on a stop and search operation along the Benin/Ore Expressway when he was arrested.
Police spokesman in Ondo state, Funmilayo Odunlami, said in a statement Thursday that the suspect was caught while escorting a Volkswagen minibus carrying pharmaceuticals headed for Benin.
He wore “a full police uniform” with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, according to the statement.
“Her clothing aroused the suspicion of the police officers on duty and they had to further investigate her details,” Ms Odunlami added.
“When asked about his identity, he was unable to give a satisfactory account of himself as a police officer.
“The investigation, however, revealed that the suspect, Nkanu Patrick, has never been a police officer, but was close to police officers in his area.
“He will soon be charged in court.”
Last week, Ogun state police officers arrested a 38-year-old man, Akinyemi Thomas, for illegally presenting himself as a police inspector.
