The Nasarawa State Police Command has warned political parties and their supporters against any act of violence ahead of the Court of Appeal Ruling on the election of governor in the state.
The state’s acting commissioner of police, Shettima Muhammad, deputy commissioner of police, gave the warning during a press conference on Monday in Lafia, the state capital.
He said the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have increased security across the state to prevent breakdown of law and order before and after the judgment is delivered soon.
“Security personnel have been adequately deployed at strategic locations in the state to maintain peace.
“I hereby call on the leaders of all political parties to pressure their followers to avoid careless statements that could trigger political tensions or engage in mass actions that could be seen as preparation for a violent procession.

“They should also celebrate moderately without infringing on the fundamental rights of the public.
“Any person or group attempting to disturb the peace and cause a breakdown of law and order will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The acting PC assured the police’s commitment to provide adequate security to citizens and encouraged them to go about their legitimate business and avoid acts capable of disturbing peace in the state.
On October 2, the Lafia gubernatorial petition court, in a two-to-one split judgment, annulled the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared David Umbugadu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ) as winner of the gubernatorial election.
Mr. Sule challenged the court’s decision before the Court of Appeal, which heard his appeal on November 15 and reserved ruling for a date yet to be announced.
The Court of Appeal is expected to announce the sentencing date soon.
