Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu canceled the ongoing process to appoint the ninth Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).
His spokesman, Gboyega Akosile, made the announcement Friday night.
Sanwo-Olu has requested a new process that must be completed within 45 days.
In a statement, Akosile said the decision followed an investigation and stakeholder involvement necessary for petitions against the screening process.
The outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, was also instructed to call an emergency meeting of the Senate.
The meeting will designate one of the deputy vice-rectors, who is not a candidate in the canceled selection process, as interim vice-rector.
The DVC will take office as of Monday, January 11, 2021, the day Fagbohun’s mandate expires.
The Governor further ordered the Senate to select, from among its members, a president of the protem to oversee the meeting and conduct of the election of the interim VC.
