Prince Uche Secondus, national president of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), opened a secretariat with capacity for 1,000 seats in the state on Saturday.
Secondus, in inaugurating the new secretary of state in Uyo, praised Governor Udom Emmanuel’s leadership role in the state.
He attributed the completion of the new secretary of state to the governor’s efforts, saying the new secretary of state was competing with the national secretary.
“This secretariat is competing with the national secretariat, this shows the manifestation of its leadership.
“When you show leadership by example and your followers show faith in their leaders, that means the leader has done well.
“I can see that you are a leader who has shown leadership and your followers are following you with curiosity and have seen the work you have shown at Akwa Ibom,” Secondus said.
The party’s national president said the PDP had the best governors in the country, as his achievements were a confirmation of his leadership prowess.
He stressed that Nigeria should build institutions, saying that the country needs to prepare young people who will become leaders to take the lead.
“PDP is getting stronger and stronger every day, we have recovered.
“Anyone from anywhere in the country can aspire to become anything and realize their dreams at PDP.
“Akwa Ibom is a state where all other states should follow,” he said.
Governor Emmanuel said party members were looking at the PDP at the national level to take over the country’s governance, noting that the party was still strengthening.
“PDP can only be strengthened. It would have been unfair if the PDP had not put something like that in Akwa Ibom because this is the only part that has promoted the state, “said the governor.
He explained that the secretariat was completed with 100% direct work, adding that the outgoing state PDP president, Mr. Paul Ekpo, had accomplished his purpose by completing the secretariat.
Emmanuel said it would have been unfair if the PDP did not have the state secretariat, as it had been the only party that had pushed the state forward.
The governor explained that the Akan Offot-Aka Etinan road with side drains was built to create access to the secretariat, noting that people were waiting for the national to return Nigeria to the PDP.
In his comments, outgoing President Ekpo praised the governor for mobilizing financial support to complete the secretary of state.
“The governor had promised that he would present this building for the inauguration as party president and here we are today; at a great cost to your personal finances, energy and time, “said the president.
