the police in Nasarawa Statein north-central Nigeria, said on Saturday that two of the six abducted primary school pupils in Alwaza, a community in the Doma local government area, have been rescued.
Commando spokesman Rahman Nansel told PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday afternoon that security agents are following the suspected kidnappers to rescue the remaining victims.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how the students were abducted on their way to school around 7 am on Friday.
The spokesman said that the operation to rescue the kidnapped students is led by the police commissioner, Maiyaki Muhammad-Baba.
On Saturday, Nansel said a joint team of police officers, soldiers and vigilante groups successfully rescued two of the uninjured victims.
Police said the two rescued students are women.
“The police, in collaboration with sister security agencies, rescued two women among the six students who were abducted yesterday in Alwaza village, Doma local government area,” Mr. Nansel said.
“The students were rescued at around 2:30 p.m. in Sabon Kwara village, Obi LGA Jenkwe Development Area, Nasarawa State, due to sustained pressure placed on the kidnappers by the combined search and rescue team. .

“The victims were taken to the hospital for a medical examination and will be handed over to the president of Doma LGA to be reunited with their parents,” it added.
The police spokesman said details of the ongoing rescue operation will be provided at a later date.
The kidnapping of schoolchildren in Nasarawa joins a growing list of kidnappings of students by bandits in northern Nigeria.
Other states where students have been kidnapped en masse include Kebbi, Niger, Zamfara and Kaduna.
