It was an inspiring session recently as SystemSpecs, Africa’s leading financial and human capital technology firm, hosted young Nigerians ages 9-16 who participated in its 2020 Children’s Day Essay Contest.
The organization, at the formal online awards ceremony, honored some 2,000 participants in the competition for their audacity to dream and express, in the form of essays, their visions of a Nigeria of their dreams thanks to innovative technology.
With presentations on the evaluation process employed by the judges, comments from the organizers, and an official awards presentation, SystemSpecs awarded certificates of participation to all participants, admitted the top 10 participants to the 2020 Honor Roll, and awarded prizes to the 3 best participants, in the junior and senior categories.
“I thank Almighty God for making this recognition on my way and at this time,” said Kalu Derrick Ugochukwu (15) of the Fosla Academy, Karshi, Abuja, who emerged first in the senior category. According to him, the competition came at a time when many students yearned for such paths to put into practice their intellectual capacity.
In his speech, Onuoha-Okoro N. David (11) of St Anthony Grammar School (Private) in Esure, Ijebu Imushin, Ogun State, who ranked first in the junior category, thanked God for the inspiration, his parents for the support and the contest organizers for the contest.
“Whether yours has appeared among the top entries or not, you are a winner. You have taken a great leap, added to your pens and positioned for greater success, you have demonstrated that technology is not only relevant in personal and corporate life, but also in the life of a nation, “said John Obaro, Managing Director, SystemSpecs. “
Obaro added that SystemSpecs is receptive to admitting Honor Roll winners and other participants in the organization for internships and other locations when they are ready for such an opportunity.
Speaking on behalf of the 2020 evaluation panel, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata (CFA) highlighted the need to pay attention to instructions, provide references to source articles, as well as logical presentation of thoughts as areas for general improvement. However, he expressed satisfaction that the competition provided insight into some of the challenges with the education system in Nigeria that should be addressed quickly.
“It is important for people to realize that education is a lifestyle and not a means of simply passing,” added Agbata.
Nigerian youth from more than 500 schools in twenty-nine states and the FCT submitted around 2000 entries within 2 weeks to enter the competition “Nigeria of my dream: make it happen with technology”.
The SystemSpecs Children’s Day Essay Contest is part of the organization’s corporate social responsibility to contribute to capacity building in Nigeria for the achievement of an overall prosperous country.
