A farmer identified as Ridwan was said to have been killed by some Bororo herders on Tuesday after a herd of cattle destroyed the deceased’s farm.
It was inferred that Ridwan, popularly known as the Rado de Eesa complex in Ijabe, Odo-Otin local government area of Osun state, was attacked on his farm in Boole village via Ijabe.
A community resident, Oluwole Seg, revealed that the shepherds raised cattle in the area and destroyed the deceased’s farm, a situation that caused an altercation between him and one of the shepherds.
“The altercation turned into a snowball between the deceased and one of the shepherds during which he pirated Ridwan and died on the spot.
“Some young people quickly ran to the shepherd’s settlement in the city, where the suspect and two other people who were there were captured and taken to the city police station.
“Later, the police visited the place and evacuated the body of the deceased to a hospital,” he said.
However, efforts to contact the police public relations officer, Yemisi Opalola, were unsuccessful because her number could not be located. But a security source confirmed that the matter has been transferred to the headquarters of the State Police Command for a proper investigation.
Meanwhile, the elders have convinced the youth of the community to allow the law to take its course rather than embark on jungle justice.
