A political interest group, No Alternative To Buhari-Osinbajo 2019 (NATBO 2019), described the acclaimed Cable News Network (CNN) investigative report on the #EndSARS protests in Lekki Tollgate, Lagos, as unbalanced and unbalanced.

A statement released by the group on Saturday through its National Coordinator, Vincent Uba, noted that there were many unanswered questions in the CNN report that made it unbalanced.

Uba said the group was totally against the activities of some members of the Special Anti-Theft Squad (SARS) staff, but wondered why EndSARS protesters continued their agitation even after President Muhammadu Buhari agreed to their requests. .

The NABTO coordinator added that CNN would have gone further to investigate whether there were other motives behind the protests besides the call for the dissolution of SARS.

“The questions now are, why restrict investigations into the Lekki saga? Why didn’t CNN investigate what happened in other parts of the country, where prior to the Lekki episode, there was looting, destruction of life and property by protesters?

“Why didn’t CNN investigate the activities of the protesters who, ironically, were doing what they were protesting before the Lekki issue?

“Didn’t CNN know that these innocent people were denied their fundamental freedom of movement and prevented from going about their business for a living?

“Allegations abound that the protests were sponsored and financed by people who wanted to destabilize the government. Why didn’t CNN turn its investigative spotlight in this direction?

“The facilities of corporate organizations, government parastatals and individual property destroyed, reach trillions of naira and as a result many people are left without work.

“Couldn’t CNN have investigated this aspect as part of its corporate civic responsibility? They should conclude their investigations, ”Uba said in the statement.

According to Uba, the swift dissolution of the SARS team by the federal government and its promise of comprehensive police reform, in response to protesters’ demands, should have won applause from the government rather than convictions.

Uba added: “NATBO 2019 takes is that CNN should have carried out a thorough and in-depth investigation of the #EndSARS protests across the country in order to unravel the true motives of the protesters.

“Again, CNN only relied on information provided by some of the protesters with videos that are difficult to determine their authenticity.

“Being in a rush to disseminate this information could be interpreted as a ploy by CNN to defame the government and turn citizens against it, thus worsening the already precarious situation.”

He urged CNN to always see itself as a society’s impartial media watchdog and should also try not to be seen as one of those teams that prides itself on half-baked investigations. (YAYA)
