Chelsea have confirmed the signing of defender Thiago Silva from Paris Saint-Germain.

Silva joined Frank Lampard’s team on a one-year contract.

Chelsea revealed this in a statement via the club’s official website on Friday morning.

The statement reads: “Chelsea Football Club has completed the signing of one of the biggest names in world football with Thiago Silva joining on a one-year contract, and the club has the option of 12 more months.”

Speaking after joining Chelsea, Silva said: “I am very happy to join Chelsea.

“I am delighted to be part of Frank Lampard’s exciting team for next season, and I am here to fight for the honors. See you soon Chelsea fans, I hope to play very soon at Stamford Bridge. “
