Twitter released a new plug-in to its package on Wednesday, which allows users to record and tweet voice memos.
In a statement on his blog, Twitter said: “Sometimes 280 characters (maximum per tweet) is not enough and some nuances of conversation are lost in translation.
“So starting today (Wednesday), we are testing a new feature that will add a more human touch to the way we use Twitter: your own voice.
“There are many things that can be left unsaid or interpreted using text, so we hope that Voice Tweeting will create a more humane experience for listeners and storytellers.”
He also explained how the process works: “Tweeting with your voice is not very different from tweeting with text. To get started, open the Tweet composer and tap the new wavelength icon.
“You will see your profile picture with the record button at the bottom: tap it to record your voice. Each voice Tweet captures up to 140 seconds of audio.
“Do you have more to say? Keep talking. Once the time limit for a Tweet is reached, a new voice Tweet is automatically started to create a thread. Once you’re done, tap the “Done” button to end your recording and return to the composer’s screen to tweet.
“People will see your voice Tweet appear in their timeline along with other Tweets. To listen, tap the image.
“Only on iOS, playback will start in a new docked window at the bottom of your timeline, and you can listen to it on the go. You can also continue listening while doing other things on your phone or while traveling.
“Voice tweeting will be available to a limited group of people on Twitter for iOS to get started, but in the coming weeks everyone on iOS should be able to tweet with their voice.
“Everyone will be able to see them (hear them) and respond,” added Twitter, launching the voice tweet.
