Two advertising workers found dead in diesel reserve tank

The Kano State Fire Service said on Sunday it found the bodies of two people in a diesel depot.

Kano fire service spokesperson Saminu Abdullahi identified the deceased as Philip Osando, 40, and Philip Emmanuel, 35.

Abdullahi said they were found dead at Baban Gwari roundabout on Katsina road in Kano metropolis.

He said they became trapped and suffocated inside the diesel reserve tank while trying to refill it.

“On Saturday, October 28, 2023, I received an emergency call at around 8:20 p.m. from an Inspector Abubakar Surajo reporting an incident on Katsina Road adjacent to Baban Gwari Roundabout.


“When our men arrived at the area at around 8.27pm, they found two men, Philip Osando, aged around 40 and Philip Emmanuel, aged around 35, who were working with Roadside Digital Advertising Display Board company on Katsina Road.

“They were informed to prepare to receive the diesel, and in that process they entered the diesel tank to empty the tank, after that they were asphyxiated inside, when the truck driver arrived he tried to close the gate to one of them by phone but there was no response . .

“Upon checking the area they found them inside the diesel tank, the victims were rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead. The victim was handed over to Inspector Abubakar Surajo of Dala Police Division.

”The cause of the incident is under investigation.

“Security is everyone thinking before acting, double checking is very important,” Abdullahi said.
