The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of two people who suffocated while cleaning a diesel depot on Saturday night in the state.

This was contained in a statement shared with journalists on Sunday in Kano, the state capital, by the public relations officer of the fire service, Saminu Abdullahi.

He said the incident occurred along Katsina Rlad along Baban Gwari roundabout in Fagge Local Government Area.

Abdullahi gave the names of the deceased as Philip Osando, 40, and Philip Emmanuel, 35.

“We received an emergency call from a police inspector, Abubakar Surajo, at around 08:20 pm on Saturday, and sent our rescue team to the scene at around 08:27 pm.”

Abdullahi said the deceased were informed at their workplace to prepare to receive diesel and that they entered the diesel depot to empty the tank but were unable to leave.

The victims were rescued by firefighters and handed over to police, he said.
