It says hosting rights, a welcome development

The University of Jos, Plateau State, has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2024 edition of the Nigerian University Games.

UNIJOS defeated Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, while Calabar University withdrew its bid for the Games.

A proud vice-chancellor of Jos University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, said he is elated to have the university as the school of choice promising to provide state-of-the-art facilities that athletes and officials would be proud of, as well as ensuring that security of all is the most important thing on the agenda.

“We have been looking forward and longing for this opportunity and we thank God for all the members and people who have made it possible for us to have the right accommodation.

“We are delighted to have bet on the Games and won. We are grateful to the President of the University of Jos, Professor Attahiru Jega of the governing council for backing us. Plans are already underway for facilities and infrastructure that will gladden the hearts of athletes and official officials, as well as NUGA officials.”

The 27th edition of the Games, announced for 2024 according to the Vice Chancellor, will go down in history as one to remember.

On the safety of athletes and officials, the vice-chancellor stated that the Plateau state government is working around the clock to ensure athletes and officials are safe.

“UNIJOS is safe for NUGA and by the grace of God we will host the best NUGA Games. We are also security conscious and during that time, we will ensure that the city is covered to ensure the safety of lives and property.”
