In June of 2019, Omah Lay became a member of the KeyQaad recording roster after being recruited by the label. Because of the transfer, he was forced to relocate from Port Harcourt to Lagos for the very first time. At the moment, he is a member of the Dvpper Music record label’s roster.

It has been said that Omah Lay’s music is “at once introspective and hedonistic, paired with the vibrancy of alt-pop production, sometimes made by the artist himself.” This description fits well with the music that Omah Lay creates. When asked about his approach to making music, the singer disclosed,

“I make afrobeats. This is what we do. In my own making of afrobeats, I don’t like to get myself all boxed in, what it should sound like. I try my best to search every single place, you know, every single style. I want to do reggae, I want to do dancehall, but at the end, I want to do afrobeat. So I’m not trying to be boxed in.”

Some of his singles are as follows:

  • Hello Brother (2019)
  • Do Not Disturb (2019)
  • Alternate Cuts (2020)
  • Tonight (2020)
  • Bad Influence
  • You
  • D*mn
  • Lo Lo
  • Ye Ye Ye

It is difficult to adequately express the man’s artistic ability, which is readily apparent in his songs. To fully comprehend the charming way in which he layers his lyrics, one line on top of the other, all you have to do is listen to the songs he has written. The two tracks that were published prior to the release of Get Layd were able to show off two different aspects of Omah Lay. You showcased the enamored lover boy side of Omah Lay, while Bad Influence displayed his bad boy side. On D*mn, Omah blends the two types of characters and presents us with a self-aware loverboy whose girlfriend loves him in spite of his imperfections.

Throughout the song, he proclaims, “I Know Myself,” with a conviction that shows that he is aware of the flaws he sings about but does not allow them get in the way – especially not in his love life. This suggests that he is aware of the faults he sings about but does not let them get in the way.

Omah’s recent success has made it possible for him to be the first musician to be included on Africa Rising, a new program that was recently introduced by Apple Music with the intention of promoting African artists. The program highlights an African musician who has been hand-picked by Apple Music’s editorial staff and then promotes that musician to music lovers across the continent and the rest of the world by utilizing the full potential of the platform. The following year, in June 2020, Apple Music highlighted him as the New Artist of the Month. Additionally, he was featured as one of the Best New Artists for the month of March 2020 in the episode of Native Mag’s Fresh Meat that aired in March.
