Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike said yesterday that he would address the insecurity that has been hampering the nation’s economy and reposition Nigeria if he emerges as the country’s president.

Wike, a contender for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform, said he would use his wealth of experience over the years to bring sanity to Africa’s largest economy.

The presidential hopeful affirmed this when he and some PDP members paid a courtesy visit to Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, in Benin City.

Wike said his visit to the Oba was to seek his royal blessings as he begins the journey to compete for the highest position in the country.

“I have come to Edo State to speak with the delegates who will participate in the national convention that will take place on May 28 and 29, 2022. I have come to speak with them because I am available to compete for the position of President of the Federal Republic. from Nigeria.

“I think we need a brave and fearless leader. We cannot continue with our arms crossed in the face of this situation. I believe that if the PDP gives me the mandate, with all my experiences as a former president of a local government area, former minister and governor, I will put my experiences into practice to help the country for the betterment of citizens.”

He recalled that Rivers used to be known for kidnapping and cultism until he met with security agencies and provided them with what they needed to secure the state, including funding for intelligence. He stressed the importance of intelligence and said that weapons ammunition would be wasted without intelligence.

“I am here to seek your royal blessings and then go on to speak to the delegates who will be participating in the party’s national convention,” he told the Oba.

In response, the monarch of Benin praised the governor for his projects in the state of Rivers, the candidate had been making “popular democracy”.

The Oba said: “We feel comfortable with you. You know that I love you personally and whatever group you decide to join, luck will be on your side because the spirit of our ancestors will be with you,” said the Oba.

The dignitaries present at the visit were Dan Orbih, National South-South Vice President of the People’s Democratic Party; Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, representative member of the Federal District of Oredo in the House of Representatives; Y
Mike Onolememen, former Minister of Works, among others
