Seventeen days after guiding Argentina to an epic World Cup final victory over France, Lionel Messi reported to work on Wednesday, his French club Paris Saint-Germain announced.

The 35-year-old, a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, turned up at the club’s training camp as they prepare for Saturday’s French Cup tie against third-tier Chateauroux.

Messi scored twice as Argentina drew France 3-3 in the final in Qatar, before prevailing in a penalty shootout. Since then he has been celebrating in Argentina and spending time with his family.

On Wednesday he received the guard of honor from his teammates at the training ground, before receiving a small trophy from PSG sporting director Luis Campos, according to images posted by the club on its Twitter account.

Messi’s teammates Kylian Mbappe, who scored a losing hat-trick in the final, and Moroccan Achraf Hakimi returned to the club just three days after the final with Brazilian Neymar joining a day later.

Messi is unlikely to play this weekend, most likely returning for the Ligue 1 home game against Angers next Wednesday.
