ZA Online acquires stake in Apple, Adobe and others: The South African Competition Commission has written to the Competition Court, recommending the proposed acquisition of an additional contribution to Shock Proof by ZA Online, the sole iStore franchisee in the country.
Shock Proof, is proud to be the owner of Digicape, a major Apple distributor that sells various types of Apple products, including Macs, iPhones, iPads, official accessories, and cellular contracts. Digicape, located in Cape Town, South Africa is also the authorized distributor of Adobe and Mac software, while it is an authorized training partner in the South African country.
ZA Online owns Core Computer Business and is the only authorized distributor of Apple products in South Africa. It has represented the Apple brand in the country since 1995.
Using Core Computer Business’s Core Peripherals, ZA Online also provides Apple products and technology solutions to medium and large business (B2B) customers.
The Competition Commission, a statutory body constituted under the Competition Act No. 89 of 1998 by the South African government empowered to investigate, monitor and evaluate restrictive business practices, abuse of dominant positions and mergers in order to achieve equity and efficiency in the South African economy, said in a statement:
“The Committee found that the proposed transaction was unlikely to result in a significant prevention or reduction of competition in any relevant markets. The Committee further found that the proposed transaction did not raise any material public interest concerns.”
With additional stake details not provided by the regulator, approval for the acquisition was granted without any hidden conditions.
