The Zamfara state government has said that 500 private schools with operating licenses in the state have been revoked, saying the decision was made to clean up the education system in the state.
This was revealed to journalists in Gusau, the state capital, by the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an interview.
The Commissioner explained that comprehensive procedures will be established for any private school that must be reissued with a new operating license to comply before it can be reconsidered.
“When the administration of Bello Mohammed Matawalle assumed the reign of power in the state, he realized that the government had almost lost control of the supervision of the operation of these private schools, as there was no control mechanism established by the Ministry of State. education that empowers the government to monitor its operations, ”said the commissioner
Dr. Abdulahi said that a system whereby the owner of a private school only has to pay the sum of N30,000 for the issuance of an operating license was unacceptable, noting that after that the state government does not benefit in none of the money despite the huge amount of money. money that these private school operators extort from parents and guardians.
In addition, he noted that his ministry had already prepared a bill that will be sent at any time to the state of the Assembly for approval, after which he said that the law will empower the state ministry of education to have full control of what which are private schools. doing in the state.
